So after being down at my apartment for a week I finally got around to assembling my racing rig/sim. Its not the greatest thing in the world but it works and the feeling of building something yourself is pretty satisfying! So, here it is!

Actually that’s brilliant for those of us without a welder!

PVC cement is rather impressive for what it is!

Awesome!

Thanks!

Thats amazing! Does it have seat warmers? If I didn’t have such bad ADD I would buy a console and build me one of those.

Haha, no seat warmers and I had some plans to work off of so with a little modifying of them and some time it really wasnt too bad

The PVC is a really good idea. I’m planning a simple seat setup with wood, but before I can design anything I need to convince myself to 1) buy a wheel and pedals and 2) go get a seat

The seat is easy, I went to my local yard and found a really nice seat out of an early 90s Prelude for $25. Pro tip: look for/get the passenger seat, it usually has significantly less wear. The wheel and pedals is a bigger call, you can get them as cheap as $50-$75 or as expensive as $500+, I went with a Thrustmaster T100 which is the cheapest force feedback wheel around for $150 I think. As for wood, my original idea called for a wood frame but I decided that would be too heavy and cumbersome while the PVC would be fairly light and portable

Something about this region, there just aren’t many you-pull yards at all. It also seems like they’re all only open M-F, 8-4, which is when I work. Eventually I’ll go pick one up, though.
I do really like the PVC - my only question would be rigidity but properly done it (which it looks to me) it should be good. I do enough woodworking that I’m not too concerned with doing mine in wood, other than finished size and my relative lack of space.

I was originally going to use 2 inch PVC but cheaped out for 1.5, and I didnt exactly take my time so the fit is less than perfect but Ive one cemented the supports for the steering wheel and so far I havent had any issues with rigidity and if I do theres a lot more joints I could cement

Have any blueprints or measurements you can share? I have a g27 and some find Corinthian leather seats

That’s pretty awesome! You do appear to be missing a pedal and a shifter though...

now that its all together and checked, I bet painting the PVC parts all black (perhaps except the bottom so paint doesn’t rub onto carpet) would make it look substantially less ghetto.
damn fine work, I think PVC may be my choice for the next ride. I made one for the kids using their old booster seats, but as they’ve grown they are now sitting on an old subwoofer box, need to fix that

I’ll send you the plans I used when I get home today. I modified them a bit but the important stuff is pretty much all the same

Once the funds come in, those two things cost more than the wheel and pedals it came with!

I’ve thought about wrapping it in a carbon fiber vinyl or plastidipping it but for right now it’s probably gonna stay ghetto. The work itself wasn’t too hard as I had some plans to go off that I modified a bit to make it a little simpler

How heavy would you say it is?

The seat is by far the heaviest part, the PVC is probably no more than 10-15 pounds
